Water Conservation Methods

Water conservation is as important as saving life and saving the earth itself. Water is the precondition to sustain the living.

Global development caused great concern to protect natural resources, the natural environment and the beauty of the planet. Still, mankind is unstoppable. Hardly any agreeable solutions to the problem are derived. The earth is heading towards a fatal disaster.

If the critical measures are not invented and implemented the future will be a carbon copy of man and dinosaurs. Nations all across the globe have problems with each other pertinent to the various issues. This includes land, natural resources, different religious beliefs, different political views, weapons production and sales, exploration of oil and gas, mass migration, space tussles, military collaborations and the list goes on. Amid such terrible instant issues, the whole of mankind remains silent on the water-borne conflicts except the engaging particular parties. And this is simply not enough.

Hypocritically, the so-called developed nations showcase bravery in spending millions of dollars to find water footprint on Mars and Moons and Venuses and whatnot! It is hard to believe that the search for water and the creation of liveable conditions apart from the mother planet will overtake the awareness and sustentation methods relating to the destruction of available water resources. In short, the preference for a united mission to conserve present water resources is heralded in the deeper sense.

1. Rainwater Harvesting: The most appealing save-water strategy comes from the storage of the rainwater called rainwater harvesting. The water is collected directly during rain showers and is stored underground after a channelised filtration of the same. The expenditure involved is almost maintenance-free and a one-time investment to crop the water for years to come. Stored water can be used for various purposes like domestic, irrigation gardening etc. Such water remains safe for drinking for a considerable long time.

2. Installation of the water meters: This can be termed as a smart move to save water by reducing its wastage. The meter is wedged in the main supply line of the premises. This ensures timely tapping water supply once required storage is done. The method is highly justified for billing by consumption and is effective in controlling wastage. The water meter is the best example of the monetary principle of Earning through Saving.

3. Construction and maintenance of the water bodies: Reinventing the topography of the region helps in constructing new water storage entities. A deep study of the regional contours helps in the enlargement and deepening of the water body keeping in view the catchment area of the site. The increase in water percolation to the soil brings up the regional water table. Rainwater draining off can be checked to a great extent.

3. Construction of dams across rivers: A vast pool of water can be stored by constructing permanent structures like dams and barrages across the rivers.  The stored water can be used in multiple ways by creating networks of canals and supply pipelines. It helps to bring up the water table in the basinal area of the land.

4. Recharging the wells and ponds: The water is spread around the wells to percolate into the voids of the soil thereby bringing up the groundwater level. Rainwater can be artificially channelised to or near the ponds which allows it to enter into the deep stratum of the unsaturated soil.

Awareness of saving water among the citizens is of utmost importance. Collective efforts put in by the population may yield better results. Disciplined household use like closing the taps while shaving or brushing the teeth, small-scale bathing showers, and minimal use in cleaning the floors and the cars have a vital role in the place.

The use of recycled water in the plantations and cleaning can bring tremendous effects on the conservation process of water.
