DIY Project of My Teenage

Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

My DIY projects are never on a considerable big scale. Minor repairs and or re-arrangements of the furniture at home are good enough.

During my higher secondary time, I embarked on a luminous project, I’d perhaps remember for my lifetime. A motivational speech from my school principal regarding hard work and honest efforts awakened my soul. I took the battle to a do-or-die level. The waters of late-night studies started boiling inside me. Every word danced into my mind in a vigour of the whirlpool thoughts day and night. He said, ‘Forget your food and sleep and go pursue your dreams’; so I did. I thought a reduced food quantity might work. The next target invariably was the reduction in sleeping hours.

I arranged my reading table stuff in a better manner. My head used to get tangled in fantasies of a grand success. I fetched up an abandoned table lamp from the shelf of my study room. That was alas, a beautiful metal body with a bulb placed inside a circularly openable top. A circular base was fixed under the pedestal shaft and the shaft was fitted with a globe-like top over it.

I enthusiastically cleaned the outer body and greased the pivots of the circularly openable globe. The metallic maroon-orange shades of the lamp were shining. But it didn’t get on. My repeated attempts with plug-pin adjustment and switch refitting yielded no response. The beauty of the lamp looked like a witch on the table finally when The fuse in the house wiring blew and the lights went off sooner I switched on. All my family members stared at me on the scorching afternoon of the summer season. Time to be nervous and shrink. Shied I apologised and ran away. A bit later my enthuse took me to resume silently and secretly.

I screwed open the base suspicious of a wiring defect and found myself clever to think so. The second of the wires was displaced from the connection circuit. Just simple, o lord! I peeled off the PVC insulation and inserted the wire end into the brass socket. Screwed tight and the lamp was ready to glow.

Triumph again circulated fast through my blood vessels and I held the lamp pedestal within my fist. Confidently I switched on standing near the table and the current passed through the metal lamp to my living body. My hands felt the tremors before I realised a terrific wrong with my lamp expertise. Instantly, I threw the lamp on the nearby wall and retreated a few steps in a dying shock. It again blew the lights, oh!

I reopened the base a few days later and fixed the open wire that touched the metal body to reach me horribly. That was done in a sharp timeslot. Cheers.
