The Revenant, Not Purely A Native American Movie

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

Let’s recall Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie The Revenant. The movie, not a native American, that earned the Academy Award for Best Actor to DiCaprio; was his breakthrough Oscar award.

Box office collection: The film had a box office success across the world theatres. Domestically in the US and Canada, it grabbed $183.6 million, and the worldwide total reached up to $533 million, a huge reward on the production budget of $135 million.

Excellent performance: Leonardo suffered from the flu several times during the filming of The Revenant. The chilled waters of rivers and zero-degree temperatures were hugely challenging at the time. The greatness of the actor comes forth with the astounding performance when he took the task to the next level and continued with the flu to depict the real scenes demanded in the situation. The violent attack by the bear on Hugh Glass, DiCaprio’s character in the movie has been created with the help of stuntmen and not the real bear.

Everyman Irrfan Khan: Famous filmmaker Mira Nair is said to have suggested the name of the Indian actor Irrfan Khan for a typical character role to be played in The Revenant. The Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was in search of an everyman with an Indian look. But Irrfan Khan who suffered from the rare cancer finally died in 2020.

Struggle on the locations: Film director Inarritu and crew had tremendous hard times. The shooting was to be done with natural light only throughout. That was the greatest challenge as the extreme conditions of the locations allowed only a few hours to rehearse and choreograph every scene. In rural Canadian locations in winter, it was difficult to move cameras from one place to another. Frozen men & equipment frequently dislocated the actual schedule resulting in an extended budget that was manifold to meet the ends. The unit was shifted to southern Argentina for the climatic shoots in abundant snow peaks just a few months before the release of The Revenant.

Oscar awards for The Revenant: The grand success of the film not only warmed up the box office but also bagged several Oscars in different categories. Numerically, Leonardo DiCaprio won his first, Inarritu second, and Emmanuel Lubezky won his third Oscar award by performing Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Cinematographer respectively in The Revenant.
